Accomplished young musician wins concerto competition

SYCAMORE – Sarah Grant is the winner of the 2014 Sycamore High School Music Department Concerto Competition.

Each year, high school seniors are encouraged to apply via auditions for the competition. Sarah had the pleasure of performing her solo piece, Concerto in E Minor, Allegro, by Serge Koussevitzky, accompanied by her peers with the chamber orchestra.

Sarah participated in SHS Chamber Orchestra and SHS Jazz Band all four years of high school. She was selected to perform in the IMEA District Orchestra as principal all four years of high school and was selected for the All-State Honors Orchestra her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She is a member of the SHS musical Pit Orchestra, the Elgin Youth Symphony, the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and the NIU Community School of the Arts Sinfonia. She was awarded the National School Orchestra Award and the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award by her peers, and recently received the Lundbeck Music Scholarship and the Butler University Talent Scholarship.

Sarah will attend Butler University this fall, double majoring in music (double bass) and music industry studies this fall.
