DeKALB – The June 29-July 5 issue of American Profile, a national weekly magazine distributed in newspapers across the country, including the Daily Chronicle in DeKalb, listed the Let's Dance Big Band Weekend as a "Go, See, Do" event in Illinois.
The big band weekend will take place July 18-20 at the Duke Ellington Ballroom, on the campus of Northern Illinois University at 340 Carroll Ave. in DeKalb. The mission of the event, created by Just Make It Happen, Inc., is to provide live dance bands of 10 or more pieces for social ballroom dancers and fans of the music to enjoy. Registration is accepted in advance, or at the door 30 minutes before each dance.
Dances will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 18, from 8 to 11:15 p.m. Saturday, July 19, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m Sunday, July 20. The deadline to RSVP for meals during the dances is Wednesday, July 9.
There will also be a cabaret dance from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 19. The cabaret dance will feature a combo of musicians and requires no tickets, but contributions to the tip jar are appreciated. It is a low-key opportunity to practice new steps.
Dancers can also sign up for beginner, intermediate or advanced lessons for $6 per person, per lesson.
Package prices range from $25 per person to dance only up to $115 per person for admission and meals at all three dances. Balcony seating will be available for $5 per person for those who want to listen to the music, but do not want to dance.
