GENOA – The winners of the 2014 Genoa Days King and Queen Scholarship Contest were Salvatore Lopez and Hannah Hill.

The 55th annual competition saw a cloudy, chilly day turn into sunshine just before the start at 8 p.m. June 11. A crowd began gathering at the main stage while prejudging was still going on down the street at Heartland Bank and Trust. Several hundred people were in attendance to cheer on the 10 finalists, all spring graduates of Genoa-Kingston High School. As they walked onstage, finalists were asked what the next step in their life will be. They were then selected at random to answer randomly-selected questions.

Queen finalists were Kayla Butz, Hill, Lauren McKinney, Amanda Murray and Payton Petruchuis. King finalists were William Crozier, Tyler Dougan, Michael Kuhn, Lopez and Paul Stensrud.

The king and queen each receive a $1,000 scholarship. The eight runners-up each receive $100 scholarships. Scholarships are made possible by corporate sponsors KishHealth System and Genoa Liquors, along with other area businesses.

Genoa Days ran from June 11-14 and included a festival and parade.
