Farmers market lets patrons pay what they can
DeKALB – DeKalb County Community Gardens is partnering with the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church to offer a unique neighborhood market. Beginning June 28, the Thrive neighborhood market and community garden will sponsor a monthly fresh vegetable market from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the last Saturday of each month in the parking lot of the church, located at 900 Normal Road in DeKalb.
The monthly farmer markets will provide healthy, organically grown vegetables at a pay-what-you-can price. All are welcome, no exceptions. The market will feature freshly grown vegetables from the St. Paul’s garden, as well as the gardens of DCCG. Any gardeners who have a surplus from their backyard gardens are encouraged to bring their vegetables to share.
“This is a great new project the Thrive group of St. Paul’s is launching. We are happy to be partnering with them,” said Dan Kenney, executive director of DeKalb County Community Gardens. “The Thrive group of St. Paul’s is taking an innovative and dynamic approach to reach people in their neighborhood with fresh vegetables, as well as creating a fun neighborhood event. I hope people come out to be part of this new market.”
The Thrive group is dedicated to cultivating community by growing affordable local produce and sharing ideas for healthy living.
The markets will feature live music, activities and games for children, as well as information on nutrition.
