Sycamore Middle School sends 10 to state track meet

SYCAMORE – Sycamore Middle School qualified 10 student-athletes for the IESA State Track & Field Meet in East Peoria in May.

State qualifiers were Anna Criswell, Nadia Dunbar, Jayda Ward, Madison Williams and Kayla Bailey in the 800-meter relay; Madison Williams in the 100-meter dash; Darely Duarte in the shot put; Nadia Dunbar in the high jump; Rachel Rigg-Goldblum in the shot put; Taylor Meier in the long jump; Stephen Poorten in the mile; and Griffin Nelson in the discus.

At the state meet, Meier made it to the long jump finals and finished seventh with a jump of 15 feet, 8 inches. Meier was Sycamore’s top finisher at state, and earned the seventh-grade girls team two points to place 57th in the state.

Williams made it to the semifinals in the 100 meters and placed 11th overall with a time of 13.12 seconds.

Dunbar placed 13th in high jump with a jump of 4 feet, 8 inches.

In shot put, Duarte finished 17th with a distance of 29 feet, 2.5 inches and Rigg-Goldblum finished 52nd with a distance of 24 feet, 11.5 inches.

Sycamore’s 4-by-2 relay finished 23rd with a time of 1:54.49.

Poorten ran his fastest mile all season at 5:01.5 and placed 28th overall.

Nelson threw the discus 100 feet, 11 inches and placed 19th overall.
