DeKALB – Steve Roman, DeKalb Public Library’s award-winning teen librarian, and tween coordinator Darcy Tatlock are bringing new programs to the library this summer.

Geektopia will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. the third Saturday of each month, beginning June 21. Citizenship in Geektopia is open to anyone who likes science fiction, fantasy, horror stories, and movies.  It is for Whovians, Trekkers, aspiring Jedis, and anyone who reads manga and graphic novels. Every month, the library will explore an aspect of geek culture, learn about its history, have a discussion, and watch a movie related to that month's topic.  This program is open to ages 10 to adult. There is no sign-up for this free event.

Adventure @ Your Library will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. the first Saturday of every month beginning June 7. Adventure @ Your Library is a tabletop role-playing game for teens. Teens will take part in a game of teamwork and collaborative storytelling where decisions make the difference between defeat and victory. There are only a limited amount of spots available, so registration through www.dkpl.org is required.

Heroes @ Your Library will be held every other month, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the second Thursday, beginning  July 17. Heroes @ Your Library is an award-winning graphic novel discussion group for area teens. Every meeting there is a discussion of a particular graphic novel, the history and context of the comic, and consideration of what makes a hero. There is no registration to this free program.

And from 2 to 4 p.m. the fourth Saturday of every month, beginning June 28, the library will host The Magic Muffin Magazine program for children ages 10-14. Children create their own magazine of stories, poems, comic strips, drawings, jokes and news articles, using material they've already started or create at the meeting. The library will provide laptops to work on submissions during the program. After the program, contributions will be added to a layout and printed for library patrons to take home and enjoy.

For information on these programs, email Roman at stever@dkpl.org. For Magic Muffin information, email Tatlock at darcyt@dkpl.org.
