Free lunches for kids begin June 18

Published: Tuesday, June 10, 2014 10:36 a.m. CST

DeKALB – Meals served through the Summer Food Service Program will begin on Wednesday, June 18, at the First United Methodist Church, 321 Oak St., DeKalb. Meals will be served from noon until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday through Aug. 21.

The Summer Food Service Program is designed to fill the gap that occurs when school lets out for summer vacation and children who received free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch during the school year through the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs do not have access to those meal programs.

Free meals, which meet federal guidelines, will be made available to children 18 years of age and younger, and to persons over age 18 who are enrolled in a state-approved educational program for the mentally or physically disabled.

For more information, contact Tracy Kelsey, Northern Illinois Food Bank, 630-443-6910 ext. 152.
