After the program, there will be a parade to Elmwood Cemetery for a service.


DeKalb Memorial Day Parade

9 a.m. Monday, May 26

The parade steps off from North Third Street and Lincoln Highway at 9 a.m. The parade will end at Ellwood House, 509 N. First St., at 9:30 a.m. for a program. Ellwood House will offer free tours from 10 a.m. until noon.

DeKalb American Legion Honor Guard

8-11:40 a.m. Sunday, May 25

The DeKalb American Legion Post will post honor guards at Veterans Park at 8 a.m., Fairview Cemetery at 8:15 a.m., Malta Cemetery at 8:40 a.m., St. Mary’s Cemetery at 9:10 a.m., the First Street bridge in DeKalb at 9:25 a.m., the Congregational Church Cemetery at 9:40 a.m., the county cemetery at 10 a.m., the Ohio Grove Cemetery at 10:25 a.m., Mound Rest Cemetery at 10:50 a.m., the Afton Cemetery at 11:20 a.m., and the cemetery at Seventh and Taylor streets at 11:40 a.m.


American Legion Post 654 services

American Legion Post 654 of Waterman will hold the following Memorial Day services: Union Cemetery in Lee at 9 a.m.; First Lutheran Cemetery in Lee at 9:30 a.m.; St. James Cemetery in Lee at 9:50 a.m.; Shabbona Nursing Home at 10:15 a.m.; and Waterman Lions Park in Waterman at 11 a.m.


American Legion Post 312 services

9:15 a.m. Monday, May 26

The Maple Park American Legion Post 312 will perform a memorial service at six local cemeteries on Memorial Day, May 26. The honor guard will assemble at each cemetery for a short service, which will include a prayer, a rifle volley, and “Taps” played by a bugler.

Services will be held at 9:15 a.m. at Pierce Cemetery, at Pritchard and Owens roads in Troxel; at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery on County Line Road; at 9:45 a.m. at Gardner Methodist Cemetery on Route 38; at 10 a.m. at Van Vlak Cemetery on McNulty Road; at 10:15 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery on Meredith Road; at 10:30 a.m. at South Burlington Cemetery on Ramm Road; and at noon at Kaneland High School.

Genoa Memorial Day Parade and Service

11:30 a.m. Monday, May 26

Parade starts at the Genoa Vets Home, 311 S. Washington St., and ends at the cemetery at Faith United Methodist Church, where a ceremony begins at noon.

Care package donations for active duty troops such as batteries, lip balm, dice, frisbees,fly swatters, game books (crossword puzzles, Sudoku, etc.), poker chips, and sunblock will be collected at the Genoa Vets Home through May 30.
