May is National Bike Month. To celebrate, a variety of local businesses will offer discounts to individuals who travel there a bike. You’ll be saving some gas money as well while engaging in a healthy activity that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
Bike riding is a great way to squeeze physical activity into a busy schedule. A 180-pound man will burn 400 calories and a 130-pound woman can burn 300 calories on a 10-mile ride. Biking not only improves your health, but it is also friendly to the environment.
According to the League of American Bicyclists, the average annual operating expense of a bicycle is just $308, versus more than $8,000 for a car, the single largest source of U.S. air pollution. When bicycling is substituted for short auto trips, 3.6 pounds of pollutants per mile are not emitted into the atmosphere.
