Lions honor student citizens of the year

GENOA – The Genoa Lions invited the 12 recipients of the Citizen of the Year Award and their parents to dinner on April 16. A pork chop dinner by the Masonic Lodge was served before the awards ceremony.

Genoa-Kingston School District 424 Superintendent Joe Burgess made a short speech, and each of the school district’s principals introduced students from their school and read letters of recommendation from the students’ teachers. Medals of achievement were awarded by Lion President Jeff Baker.

Citizens of the year were first grade, Jaquey Flores, Davenport Elementary; second grade, Connor Leahy, Kingston Elementary; third grade, Brock Simon, Kingston Elementary; fourth grade, Jaymee McMurray, Genoa Elementary; fifth grade, Hanna Chriss, Genoa Elementary; sixth grade, Maddie Hill, Genoa-Kingston Middle School; seventh grade, Tyler Grimm, Genoa-Kingston Middle School; eighth grade, Heather Vance, Genoa-Kingston Middle School; ninth grade, Julie Galauner, Genoa-Kingston High School; 10th grade, Abbey Rasmussen, Genoa-Kingston High School; 11th grade, Khloe Butz, Genoa-Kingston High School; and 12th grade, Andrea Strohmaier, Genoa-Kingston High School.
