SYCAMORE – At noon on Thursday, April 24, individuals will take a symbolic stand against child abuse at Hands Around the Courthouse, a free community event to honor children in DeKalb County who have been abused.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Every year, DeKalb County agencies receive thousands of reports of child abuse. The Children’s Advocacy Center of DeKalb County is a coordinating agency that works with child protection, law enforcement, and medical abuse agencies and the county state’s attorney’s office to lessen the trauma of abuse and help protect children in DeKalb County.
The CAC strives to make DeKalb County a better place for children and families by making sure parents have the knowledge and skills they need to care for their children and by supporting child abuse prevention education in schools.
On April 26, the CAC will host Walk to End Child Abuse, another opportunity for the public to raise awareness regarding Child Abuse Awareness Month. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Sycamore High School Field House, and the walk begins at 10 a.m. The registration fee for the walk is $15 and proceeds from this event stay in DeKalb County to help children involved in a child abuse investigation.
Call 1-800-252-2873 or your local law enforcement to report suspected child abuse.
