Live music at Feed'em Soup for Shelter Box
“Box Rox,” a benefit concert on behalf of Shelter Box, a Rotary-backed international relief agency, will be held March 27 at Feed’em Soup, 122 S. First St., in downtown DeKalb.
A number of local performers will be on stage during the weeknight Feed’em After Dark meal service. They will perform from 8 p.m. until approximately 1 a.m.
For a $10 donation, diners can listen to live music from area artists. The goal is to raise $1,000 toward sponsorship of a Shelter Box, which provides an emergency tent, tools, cooking gear, water purification systems and other basics that survivors of a major disaster would need.
Shelter Boxes have been deployed to major disasters all over the world, ranging from the tsunamis in Japan and the Indian Ocean, to tornadoes in Oklahoma and after Hurricane Katrina. Teams have recently been in Syria and surrounding Middle Eastern countries, providing shelter to refugees from the ongoing civil war.
The Sycamore, DeKalb and Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary Clubs have been frequent supporters of the efforts of Shelter Box to help disaster survivors.
Feed’em Soup offers weekly meal service to anyone in need in DeKalb County. Aside from their regular dinner on Wednesday evenings, they sell food to those attending the downtown DeKalb bar and concert scene from Thursday through Saturday evenings. Thursday is generally the busiest night.
