Jazz, gospel and hymns blend in concert
DeKALB – The fourth in a series of concerts celebrating the 50th anniversary of Westminster Presbyterian Church will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23.
This event will feature musicians from Westminster, including the Joy Ringers handbell choir directed by Elli McLaughlin, the Chancel Choir directed by Robert Davis, the men’s and women’s choruses, and the praise band directed by Victoria Young. In addition, the program will feature a trumpet and a brass ensemble, a flute and a piccolo solo, plus Pastor Blake Richter performing a trumpet solo.
The concert will be a mix of gospel, sacred, and jazz music. Songs include “His Eye is on the Sparrow,” “Blessed Be Your Name,” Four Sequential Fanfares,” Wade in the Water,” “Down to the Water to Pray,” “Amazing Grace,” and “For the Beauty of the Earth,” plus a composition by the late Oscar Haugland sung by the Chancel Choir. Audience members will be asked to join in singing a few of the pieces.
Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb, is fully accessible. Refreshments will be served after the program.
