Talk politics with Abraham Lincoln at party
SYCAMORE – Looking for a special night out with one of America’s leading couples? Then check out Sycamore History Museum’s Winter Fundraiser, “Meet the Lincolns,” featuring Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln.
The doors open at St. Mary’s Memorial Hall in Sycamore at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15, and the program begins at 7 p.m. Nationally-recognized Lincoln impersonators Max and Donna Daniels will present an intimate look into the lives of the Lincolns. Refreshments will include one of Abraham Lincoln’s favorite desserts, and a live and silent auction.
Mr. Lincoln will discuss such subjects as his love for the law and his years riding the circuit as a lawyer in Illinois. He will outline some of the major issues of the day — the causes of the Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the abolition of slavery in America.
Mrs. Lincoln will focus on the effects of the great conflict on families who were divided by war. As a leader of women, she will introduce us to their special role in the Civil War and in the nation’s recovery. On a lighter note, she will also illustrate some of the major fashions of the day.
“We are very excited to host such talented and respected performers as Max and Donna Daniels,” said Michelle Donahoe, executive director of the history museum.
The Danielses have performed at the Lincoln Home Visitor Center in Springfield and at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
The live auction is new to the winter fundraiser, Donahoe said, and proceeds will support technology, which plays a major role in the museum’s educational activities. A portion of the money raised will also go to the museum’s endowment fund.
“Several donors have agreed to match funds raised during the live auction, so your contribution will go even further,” Donahoe said.
Advance tickets for the program are $20 each or $30 for couples and will be available at the Sycamore History Museum or the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will also be available at the door for $25 per person or $40 per couple. For more information call 815-895-5762 or visit sycamorehistory.org.
