‘Cinderella’ ballet dances into the Egyptian
DeKALB – The Beth Fowler Dance Company of Genoa and St. Charles is bringing “Cinderella,” the classic fairy tale ballet, to the stage of the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St. in DeKalb. Performances are 7 p.m. March 7 and 8 and 2 p.m. March 8 and 9.
Performed to Sergei Prokofiev’s score, the story of the mistreated and tattered housemaid who becomes the belle of the Prince’s ball includes beautiful costuming and scenery, and a magnificent pumpkin carriage.
In the ballet story, Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother calls upon the fairies of the four seasons to assist with the magical makeover and present Cinderella with gifts to prepare her for the ball. Artistic director Beth Fowler’s addition of Cinderella’s mouse friends to the cast gives the production a Disney-like touch.
Guest artist Ariel Cisneros will dance the role of the Prince. Cisneros has been a soloist with many companies, including the Cleveland Ballet and Lyric Opera and Joffery Ballet, both of Chicago. He performed with the Beth Fowler Dance Company this season as The Nutcracker Prince in “The Nutcracker.”
The role of Cinderella will be performed by Haly Young of Genoa, who performed this season as the Christmas Fairy and as the Snow Queen in the company’s “The Nutcracker.”
Other featured company dancers include Rachael Kollins of Hampshire as Fairy Godmother; Rachel Olson of Genoa as the Spring Fairy; Hannah Whitten of Genoa as the Fall Fairy; and Brooke Fowler of Kingston as the Winter Fairy. Carly Ruggeri of Geneva and Lindsey Haugen of St. Charles are double-cast as the Midnight Fairy and the Gift Bearer Fairy.
Performing as the Stepmother is Kelly Bolander of Sycamore. The Stepsisters are Kaitlyn O’Grady of Lake in the Hills and Jenna Soldati of Geneva.
Dancers from the Beth Fowler School of Dance are included in the cast.
