The Maple Park Police Department received the traveling Flame of Hope trophy as the top fundraising agency for Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois.

MAPLE PARK – Maple Park Police Department was awarded the Flame of Hope Trophy at the annual Special Olympics Kick-off event in Normal. The small department raised more money through the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics than any other agency in Illinois.

Maple Park Police will be listed in the No. 1 position on this year’s Torch Run T-shirt. The department raised more than $63,000 in 2013. Since 2011, Maple Park has raised more than $120,000 for Special Olympics Illinois.

The trophy is proudly displayed in the Maple Park village office.

“Soon the trophy will be displayed at The Pub, Bootleggers, Casey’s General Store, and Honest Auto, businesses in our community that have sponsored our events,” Police Chief Mike Acosta said.
