Park district offers Valentine's date night
GENOA – Parents of young children have the chance for a night out.
As a Valentine’s Day gift for parents, the Genoa-Kingston Park District is hosting its third annual “Parents’ Valentine Date Night, Pajama Jam & Minute to Win It” from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Genoa Fitness Center Kids’ Zone, 333 E. First St. in Genoa.
The evening will include snacks, dinner, a G-rated movie, activities and games based on the TV show “Minute to Win It.” Parents can drop off their children ages 5 to 12, then enjoy a romantic night out. Children can come in pajamas and slippers if they want, and are allowed to bring a favorite pillow and blanket. For safety’s sake, the center will be locked down during the event.
“The kids have a great time and the parents don’t have to worry,” fitness director Holly Ber said. “You can hear them go screeching out the drive.”
“This is a nice getaway for the parents,” fitness center manager Monique Muntner said. “The kids are always moving. We keep them energized. We will keep them physically fit and mentally in tune.”
Ber said the evening is one of the fitness center’s most popular events of the year. At the end, children are allowed to run on the track, which is normally off-limits to them.
“They love that,” she said. “It’s the forbidden zone.”
The cost of the evening for fitness center members is $18 per child. For non-members, it’s $20 per child. For more information or for tickets, call 815-784-3488.
