Free presentation on rootworm management

Published: Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

SHABBONA – Some northern Illinois farmers were surprised when combining the 2013 corn crop. Evidence of lodged corn and a corresponding dip recorded by yield monitors made many question the effectiveness of their rootworm management program, said Russ Higgins, Commercial Agriculture Educator with the University of Illinois Extension.

To expand on the dialogue and share the most current research, University of Illinois entomologists Mike Gray and Joe Spencer will visit the Northern Illinois Agriculture Research Center (NIARC), 14509 University Road in Shabbona for a program at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19.

“Our speakers are looking forward to an interactive discussion with the audience, including the sharing of recent experiences,” Higgins said. “I expect a lively discussion with our experts and Northern Illinois corn growers.”

Advance registration is not required and there is no cost for the program. For more information, call 815-274-1343 or visit web.extension.illinois.edu/niarc/.
