Farmland foundation offers scholarship for ag, land use students

The DeKalb County Farmland Foundation is offering a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from any high school in the county.

The Foundation selects one graduating senior who plans a career in agriculture, the environment or land use planning for the Simonson Scholarship. Applicants should complete a letter of application with an explanation of career goals, biographical information, college plans, and include a high school transcript. Two letters of recommendation from a high school administrator, teacher or employer must be included.

Deadline for applying is March 14. The successful applicant will be chosen by April 14 and award presented in May.

Letters should be sent to Simonson Scholarship, DeKalb County Farmland Foundation, P.O. Box 375, DeKalb, IL 60115. For more information on the application process contact the foundation secretary Donna Bennett at 815-756-7712.

The Foundation’s purpose is to preserve farmland and open space in the county for the benefit of current and future generations. Officers in addition to Bennett are Gerald Brauer president, Barry Schrader vice president, and Larry Sallberg treasurer.
