KishHealth debuts new patient portal

KishHealth System is giving patients access to their medical information through MyKishHealth, the new online patient portal for Kishwaukee and Valley West Hospitals. Designed to give patients direct online access to portions of their patient medical record, patients now have direct access to laboratory and radiology results, billing statements, as well as the ability to request appointments and track visit history. All information is securely stored in this electronic record for quick, easy and secure access by the patient or a designated proxy.

Electronic health records and their accessibility by patients are crucial to ensuring the best care possible by improving the ability to share information with other care providers to better coordinate the care provided to patients.

"We've been using electronic health records for a number of years now," said Pamela Duffy, MSN, MBA, KishHealth System vice president of Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer. "What's changing is ease and capability of making information from those records available to the patients themselves. KishHealth System believes that MyKishHealth is a valuable tool for patients and their families to actively participate in their care, which contributes to better health. This ability to securely share information with patients electronically allows them to fully take part in decisions about their health, and the health of their families."

Patients can sign up for MyKishHealth at the time they register for a service or procedure at Kishwaukee Hospital or Valley West Hospital. Patients will need to confirm some basic personal data, and then will receive a card with their medical record number, and instructions on how to set up their new accounts. Patients can also bring a photo ID to the medical records department at either hospital, provide a valid email address, and be sent a link to set up their patient portal account. Additionally, a form is available online and can be submitted electronically, through fax or mail delivery.

"We understand how important it is to have timely access to your health information, which is why we've created MyKishHealth for our patients. Anytime we can empower patients to have a more active role in their health, we do and this is another example of that," said Heath Bell, Chief Information Officer for KishHealth System.
