Feed’em Soup schedules fundraiser

On the heels of a successful 2013, Feed’em Soup Community Project, a local 501(c)3 community kitchen offering patrons a restaurant quality meal regardless of their ability to pay, has planned a unique season of dinners to help the organization continue to feed the community.

The “soup kitchen” receives no government aid and no assistance from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Fundraising dinners are crucial to the success of the organization. This year, the group offers a “Season Pass” to all seven dinners currently in the works.

• Unlimited Potato Bar with Rummage Sale ($8 in advance, $10 at the door)

5-8 p.m. Jan. 24 and 25

A salad bar-style dinner featuring baked potatoes, mashed potatoes and dozens of fixings including cheese, chives, chili and more. A rummage sale will be held in addition to the dinner. The rummage sale includes toys, clothes, games, shoes, furniture and other items.

• All You Can Eat Pancake Dinner ($10)

5-8 p.m. Feb. 28-March 1

Feed’em Soup’s third annual pancake dinner features four gourmet pancakes: mixed berry, Oreo, bacon, and one variety yet to be announced.

• Seven Corpses Murder Mystery Dinner ($25 Before March 14, $30 after)

7 p.m. March 22 (doors open at 6 p.m.)

In this murder mystery, a major movie company is coming to town to shoot the latest horror flick and is casting for local talent. The leading lady has been involved in several minor “accidents” in recent weeks. The film’s insurance company has sent an investigator to protect their interests and see what exactly is going on. Dinner includes lasagna (meat and vegetarian options), soup, salad and bread.

• Unlimited Pasta Bar ($10 advance, $12 at the door)

5-8 p.m. April 18 and 19

A variety of pasta shapes like spaghetti and rotini and Italian sauces like marinara and Alfredo. Garlic bread and salad included.

• GRILLED ’14 ($10)

5-8 p.m. May 16 and 17

Feed’em Soup’s annual all-you-can-eat gourmet kabob dinner will feature habanero BBQ pork kabobs, raspberry citrus chicken kabobs, marinated garden veg kabobs and chimichurri beef kabobs over rice.

• Steak Fry ($20, advance tickets only)

7 p.m. June 13 and 14

A grilled 10-ounce rib eye with a choice of soup or salad, a vegetable dish, a potato dish and dessert.

• Unlimited Taco Bar ($10 advance, $12 at the door)

5-8 p.m. Oct. 18 and 19

This serve-yourself taco bar includes grilled chicken, ground beef, chorizo and eggs and all the fixings, with rice and refried beans.

Season Passes are available for $85 and include admission to all seven dinners. After Jan. 25, passes are $80 and include the six remaining dinners.

Season passes and tickets to individual dinners can be purchased in the online shop at or in person at Feed’em Soup, 122 S. First St. in DeKalb.
