DeKALB – DeKalb Area Retirement Center-Oak Crest is sponsoring an essay contest for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. The topic for this annual essay event is “What are the Traditions in Your Family’s Culture?”

Organization, sentence structure, grammar, spelling and punctuation will be considered, as well as original content and neatness. The essays should be between 750 and 1,000 words in length.

Prizes for the contest are being donated by the National Bank and Trust for the top three winners.

Essays may be turned in at Oak Crest, 2944 Greenwood Acres Drive in DeKalb, by Feb. 3. They should be submitted in an envelope with name, school and grade written neatly on the outside.
