Volunteers needed for low- income tax prep program

AARP Tax-Aide is a free service providing assistance in tax preparation for individuals with low to moderate income, with special attention to senior citizens. This service is provided by trained local volunteers who are interested in making a difference in their communities.

The program is in need of additional volunteers in DeKalb, Sycamore, and Genoa to assist individuals with their tax return preparation.

No experience is necessary to volunteer, just a desire to help others. Volunteers will use existing skills or learn new ones while providing a valuable service to those who need help. AARP Tax-Aide will provide training for all volunteers at Ideal Training Center on Park Avenue in Sycamore Jan. 22-23 and 27, beginning at 9:30 a.m. each day.

Call Dave Leifheit, county coordinator, at 815-895-2430 or 815-757-1800, or Mark Anderson at 815-765-5157, to volunteer and participate in this free training program.

Tax service begins Feb. 1, 2014, and ends April 15. Services will be provided at DeKalb Senior Center, DeKalb County Outreach Building, Sycamore Methodist Church, Resource Bank Genoa Office, Ideal Training Center, DeKalb Library, and Kirkland Municipal Center. Each site is open one day a week. Any time you have to offer will be appreciated.
