DeKALB – Barb Food Mart, a food pantry for families with school-age children in the DeKalb School District, has partnered with the local Goodwill Industries store to collect donations.
The DeKalb Goodwill store, on South Annie Glidden Road next to Schnucks, will accept donations of paper products and nonperishable foods for the Barb Food Mart, which is located inside Huntley Middle School.
“This is a great partnership that will help so many families with children,” Sheryl Nakonechny, director of Barb Food Mart, said.
Since it opened in July, Barb Food Mart typically serves between 70 and 80 families each week. It is open from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
“We are very happy to join with Barb Food Mart to help those in need in our community,” said Tim Gebauer, Goodwill store manager. “Goodwill wants to be part of and give to the communities where we are located. It is a way for us to give back to the community.”
Donations to both the food mart and to the Goodwill store can be dropped off at the Goodwill donations door.
