Opportunity House athletes place in volleyball tournament

SYCAMORE – More than 650 Special Olympics athletes competed in Special Olympics Illinois’ fall volleyball tournament at Harlem High School in Rockford Oct. 26-27. This was one of eight Special Olympics Illinois tournaments in 2013, and included volleyball and equestrian contests.

There were 46 athletes who competed in individual volleyball skills competitions, and 490 on 51 teams in team competition. Nearly 130 athletes competed in equestrian events at BraveHearts at Bergmann Centre in Poplar Grove.

The volleyball team from Opportunity House in Sycamore placed third in volleyball team competition. Teammates were Cierra Bend of Earlville, Mary Cosentino, Rosanka Hudak and Kevin Koch of DeKalb, Khadija Purdom, David Roberts, Matthew Sherman, Frank Slowinski and Frank “Danny” Trevino of Sycamore and Michael Sainati of St. Charles.
