Dentists Bryce Deter (far left) and Dennis Collins (far right) and the staff at Collins Dental Group will provide free dental care to veterans and their immediate families on Saturday, Nov. 9. The first 100 veterans and family members will receive free cleanings, examinations and routine treatments.

SYCAMORE – For the second year, Sycamore-based Collins Dental Group will celebrate Veteran’s Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. The first 100 veterans and their immediate families will receive complementary dental cleanings, examinations and oral cancer screenings. There will also be dentists available for complementary routine treatments, such as fillings and extractions.

The staff of Collins Dental Group has been busy planning for this event for months. Last year’s event was a great success, with nearly 100 people seen for dental treatment.

“The appreciation we received from veterans and their families at last year’s event made the decision to repeat it this year a no-brainer,” Dr. Dennis Collins said. “We truly appreciate the sacrifices that our service men and women and their families make for our country, and this is our way of saying ‘thank you.’”

Dr. Bryce Deter, a dentist at the practice, is a US Navy veteran who has been on staff for more than 20 years. Deter served five years on active duty as a dental officer as a lieutenant commander. His stations included Naval Weapons Center in China Lake, Calif., The Fleet Marine Force in Okinawa, Japan and The Naval War College in Newport, R.I.

Deter said he was impressed with the Navy’s professionalism, and has incorporated the military’s team approach into his practice.

“In the Navy I was working with other dentists routinely, so it seemed natural to come into a group practice and have a similar setting,” he said. “The advantage you have is you see a case, show an x-ray to another doctor and bounce ideas off of them. I think it affords better treatment for the patients. This teamwork approach is the core philosophy of Collins Dental Group.”

Veterans and their immediate family can call 815-758-3666 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome. For more information, call or visit www.collinsdentalgroup.com.
