Church plans annual dinner and auction

HINCKLEY – Members and friends of Hinckley First United Methodist Church are busy gathering auction items for the church’s 15th annual Fall Dinner and Auction, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1, at Timber Creek Inn & Suites in Sandwich. Appetizers will be served at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m.

The first year this event was held, organizers hoped to raise $10,000 and ended up raising $12,440. Each year, the profit has grown. In 2012, the event raised $22,750 for the church.

During the social hour and dinner, guests can bid on items in the silent auction. After dinner, the live auction will begin. Items in the live auction include themed table centerpieces and a number of unique items donated for the event. Some of the things to be auctioned include a Chicago getaway that includes a two-night stay at the Fairmont, Fairmont Gold guest access to Millennium Park and a $200 shopping spree at Macy’s; a handcrafted queen-size quilt made of T-shirts and other material donated by members of the church; Cubs tickets; a stay at a timeshare near Orlando, Fla.; a one-of-a-kind stained glass creation; and homemade items like cookies, pies and cupcakes.
