SYCAMORE - The Wally Thurow Tribute Committee is in high gear, seeking donations to fund a permanent tribute to Wally Thurow, affectionately known as “Mr. Pumpkin.”  The committee’s goal is to raise $75,000 to erect a life-sized statue of Thurow along the Pumpkin Festival parade route.

The committee will solicit donations during Pumpkin Festival week outside of the American Family Insurance office across from the DeKalb County Courthouse from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.

The committee will also collect donations at the Autumn Crafts & Treasures Market at the Sycamore High School Fieldhouse from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Oct. 26 and 27.

Those donating $20 or more in person at one of the locations can receive a long-sleeved commemorative T-shirt or a copy of the Wally Thurow book, while supplies last.

Donations can also be dropped off at schools in the Sycamore School District until Nov. 1.

All donations are tax-deductible and the Wally Thurow Tribute Fund is maintained by the DeKalb County Community Foundation. For more information, email MrPumpkinStatue@gmail.com.
