SYCAMORE – Learn the basic principles of safe hunting and firearm handling at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Hunter Education class. The next class will be held at the Sycamore Sportsmen and Conservation Club on Motel Road in Sycamore.
Classes will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 and Thursday, Oct. 31, and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. Students must attend all three classes and pass an exam to successfully complete the course.
The free class covers wildlife management, firearm safety, bow hunting, hunter ethics, muzzle-loading firearms, game identification, first aid, survival techniques and hunting regulations.
State law requires that anyone born in 1980 or later must complete a hunter education course before they can buy an Illinois hunting license. Many Western states now require nonresidents to have a hunter education certificate before issuing them an out-of-state hunting license.
