The Kishwaukee Brass Quintet was a special guest at the Aug. 25 worship service of the First United Methodist Church in DeKalb. Nancy Melms and the church's middle- and high-school youth led the service, and the quintet provided music. The quintet is made up of trumpeters Mike Duffy and Jerry Zar, French horn player Mark Robinson, trombonist John D. Smith and tuba player Ben Helton. The ensemble recently received a grant from the Target Foundation through Just Make It Happen Productions to perform at three local preschools. Just Make It Happen is looking for matching donors to expand the music education outreach to other preschools.
