SYCAMORE – Home Bound Healthcare of Sycamore will provide flu vaccines to people in the comfort of their own homes again this year.

“Many frail, elderly or at-risk people have difficulty leaving home. This service will provide them with the protection they need without the tremendous difficulty they face getting out in the community,” said Chris Welch, regional administrative consultant for Home Bound Healthcare. “This customer service offers people the flexibility to schedule the flu shot at their convenience.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting the vaccine as soon as it becomes available, because it takes the body about two weeks to build up immunity. The immunity will last throughout the entire flu season.

Anyone older than 65, or younger than 65 with a disability that makes it difficult for them to leave home, is eligible to receive the flu shot at home.

Home Bound Healthcare will offer this service at no out-of-pocket expense for those with Medicare coverage. The cost of the flu vaccine for those without Medicare coverage will be $25.

This is the ninth year the company has provided shots via house call, and the response in past years has been very positive, Welch said.

Home Bound also provides the vaccine in its office at 1625 Bethany Road, and can schedule flu shot clinics at community buildings, senior housing facilities, and with other organizations.
