SYCAMORE – School children can help to make the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival a success at the 2013 Sycamore Kids Work Day.
All school-age children are invited to participate. Participants will meet in the city parking lot at Elm and Somonauk streets at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, and split into groups headed by adults. The groups will work until noon, picking up trash along the streets in preparation for the thousands of visitors who will come to Sycamore a few weeks later for the Pumpkin Festival.
Workers will receive a T-shirt and a kids meal coupon for a local eatery, including Carmine’s, Culver’s, McDonald’s, Mudslinger’s, the Parkway, Shawn’s, the Sycamore Cafe, Taxco, Tommy O’s, Wendy’s and Willow’s Cafe.
The city will provide easy-to-handle trash bags and water. Adults to walk with the groups of kids are also needed. Kids Work Day was proposed in 2012 by then-fifth grader Olivia Cloat.
