Applications available for concealed carry instructors

Illinois Concealed Carry Firearms Instructor and Curriculum applications are now available on the website of the Illinois State Police. Qualified people interested in becoming a state-certified firearms instructor or having their firearms curriculum approved for use in Illinois can access the application at isp.state.il.us.

As soon as applications are approved, a registry will be available on the website listing approved instructors and courses.

Instructor applicants are required to first electronically submit fingerprints through an Illinois-licensed Livescan vendor to expedite background checks.

Instructor applicants must be 21 or older, a legal resident of the United States, possess or be eligible for a valid Firearm Owners Identification card, and be eligible for a concealed carry license. They must also have a high school diploma or GED certificate and have certification as a firearms instructor from at least one of the following: a law enforcement agency, a firearm instructor course offered by a state or federal agency, a firearm instructor course offered by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, or an entity approved by the Illinois State Police as a provider of firearm instructor education and training, such as the National Rifle Association of America.

People who want to apply for a concealed carry license must successfully complete approved training from an approved Illinois concealed carry firearms instructor.

Applications for licenses will be available early in January.
