SHABBONA – Indian Creek Community Unit School District 425 received $3.1 million in capital funds that are part of a program to renovate and construct new buildings for schools.

The funds are part of $400 million from Gov. Pat Quinn’s Illinois Jobs Now! capital program, which aims to create thousands of construction jobs while updating the infrastructure and energy systems of schools statewide.

Twenty-four school districts across the state will receive funding this fiscal year after their projects are certified by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Capital Development Board.

District 425 will receive about $3 million in a state investment to be matched by a local share of about $3 million. The work involves the construction of the one-story, 18-classroom Shabbona Elementary School with a total design capacity for 450 students and a home-room capacity for 425 students from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade.
