Egyptian Theatre announces its fall schedule
DeKALB – The Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St. in DeKalb, has announced its fall schedule of events, including classic movies, concerts and dance performances.
In September, the theater returns to its cinema roots with a series of movies. Films that will be shown on the big screen are “When Harry Met Sally,” “The Princess Bride,” “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb,” “A Place at the Table,” “Rear Window,” “2001: A Space Odyssey” and both the 1969 and 2010 versions of “True Grit.”
The nonprofit theater will also host its annual bike ride fundraiser, Ride Like an Egyptian, on Sept. 14 and a fundraising concert Sept. 27, featuring Enuff Z’Nuff, Creedence Again and Mancow Muller.
Rick Springfield comes to The Egyptian for a concert on Oct. 3. The rest of October is dedicated to the spooky season, with a screening of “The Shining” and the theater’s popular Amenti Haunted House the weekends of Oct. 18 and 25 and Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
In November, the theater is the site of the DeKalb Area Artists Sale and of the OCB Midwest States Bodybuilding & Figure Competition. The animated family film “Rise of the Guardians” will be shown for free Nov. 29.
The theater will resume its monthly screening of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” this fall, with shows on Sept. 6, Oct. 4 and Nov. 15.
The theater gets into a holiday mood in December, beginning with Santa’s arrival in DeKalb on Dec. 5. Dancers with Beth Fowler Dance Company’s production of “The Nutcracker” will take the stage, and dancers with Sycamore/Rochelle Dance will perform “Christmas Around the World.” The theater will also screen “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
