High Holy Days services set
DeKALB – Services for Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) will be offered by Congregation Beth Shalom in DeKalb, serving DeKalb and Kane counties.
The services, open to everyone, will be led by Rabbi Michael Remson and cantorial soloist Zachary Weiss. Services are cosponsored by the synagogue and Hillel, the Jewish student organization at Northern Illinois University. No tickets are required.
Rosh Hashanah services will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, and will include music by the congregation’s choir, directed by Harvey Blau. Refreshments will be served after services. Rosh Hashanah services will continue at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5. Services both days will be in the Clara Sperling Sky Room at the Holmes Student Center on Lucinda Avenue on the NIU campus. A less formal service, with a discussion rather than the Torah reading, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Congregation Beth Shalom, 820 Russell Road in DeKalb. The shofar will be blown on both Sept. 5 and 6.
