Escape to yesteryear
GENOA – Demonstrations at the Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Society Pioneer Day this year will be co-chaired by Roger and JoAnn Watson of Genoa, volunteers who have been dedicated to the annual living history event since it began.
The Watsons said they were happy to announce the return of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln impersonators Max and Donna Daniels. The couple has played the Lincolns since 1988 and have won many awards. They will speak from the back of the Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Society Museum’s newly-restored caboose at 622 Park Ave. in Genoa.
The day’s planned activities include wood carving, quilting, candle dipping, rope making and many old-fashioned games. There will be rides on an authentic stage coach drawn by Percheron horses, homemade pies, a silent auction, fresh cornbread and butter, gun fights, music in the museum and more.
Pioneer Day will take place from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at the museum. Call 815-784-5559 or 815-784-5498 or email email@example.com for more information. Though donations are welcome, there is no admission fee and most of the activities are free. The Genoa Lions Club will sell lunch concessions.
