DeKALB – TAILS Humane Society’s Mutt Strut Dogwalk, Funfest and 5K-9 Run for the Rescues is scheduled to be held at Hopkins Park in DeKalb on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The event will kick off at 9 a.m. with the 5K-9 Run for the Rescues. Last year’s run was “a huge success,” race co-captain Amanda Weides said.

“We had over 130 runners, which was great for our first year,” she said. “We’ve made a couple of changes for this year and we’ve added some exciting things for the start and finish lines. We expect over 200 runners this year and we know everyone who runs will have a great time.”

Registration for the 5K-9 run is $30 for runners and $35 for runners with dogs, and is available at www.tailshumanesociety.org. Prizes will be awarded for top male and female runners with and without their dogs.

The free fun fest portion of the event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Featured demonstrations include the Windy City K9 Disc Club at 12:30 and 2 p.m. and agility demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pet contests open to the public will run throughout the event. Food and pet-related items will also be available for sale, and music will be provided by a DJ.

New this year, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Brad Manning Ford will offer test drives of new Ford vehicles. Ford will donate $20 to TAILS for each test drive, up to a total of $6,000.

“We are extremely excited to partner with Brad Manning Ford and we are committed to doing anything we can to help promote this fundraiser,” said Tom Van Winkle, TAILS associate executive director. “As an incentive to encourage people to participate, TAILS will provide a free gift to anyone who test drives a car.”

The dog walk will kick off at 11 a.m., led by the Barbed Wire Betties roller derby team. The walk will wind through Hopkins Park. Registration is available in advance at www.tailshumanesociety.org and will also be available on site. The dog walk registration fee is $15 for individuals and $30 for families.

All proceeds will support the TAILS veterinary program. Registration and information are available at www.tailshumanesociety.org.
