Sondheim musical a comical look at love and marriage

DeKALB – Stage Coach Players presents the musical comedy “Company” in August. This revolutionary, unconventional look at love and commitment in a complex, modern New York features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The original 1970 production was nominated for a record-setting 14 Tony Awards and won six, including Best Musical.

The show is a remarkably honest, clever and sophisticated portrayal of five married couples as seen through the eyes of their mutual friend Robert, a bachelor weighing the pros and cons of wedded life. In a series of vignettes, Robert observes the benefits and follies of marriage and learns about the perils and pleasures of love, marriage, dating and divorce.

“‘Company’ is both hysterical and touching in its portrayal of relationships,” director Ryan Morton said. “Whether you’re single, dating or married, this musical will speak to you.”

The cast includes Jason Williams as the uncommitted Robert; Kim Moorman and Greg Anderson as the competitive couple Sarah and Harry;  Michele McClane and Dominic Johnson as adventurous couple Susan and Peter; Jennifer Snow and Kevin Pajor as family-focused Jenny and David; Katie Wolf and Tom McManamon as soon-to-be-married Amy and Paul; and Barb McCaskey and Lawrence Nepodahl as the experienced Joanne and Larry.

The show also features Bobby’s on-again/off-again girlfriends, ditzy April (Sara Schuneman), sweet Kathy (Keely Smith) and spunky Marta (Ashley Davis). The musical director is Nika Plattos.
