Survey asks, ‘What would bring you to Shabbona?’
SHABBONA – A committee exploring the potential for economic growth in Shabbona is asking the public to help by completing an online survey.
The economic development committee, made up of local leaders from the community, was appointed by the village of Shabbona. The survey asks what amenities, activities and attractions would draw Shabbona residents and visitors to Shabbona Lake State Park. It asks individuals’ opinions on such features as a lodge, an amphitheater, video gaming, a Native American history museum, added campsites and a swimming beach.
The state park draws more than 425,000 visitors each year, and has drawn more than 12 million visitors since opening in the early 1970s. In 2011, the Illinois General Assembly declared the lake “Illinois’ Best Fishing Lake” and the “Muskie Capitol of Illinois.”
