GENOA – Farmers and crafters will have to move aside at the July 27 Open Air Market in downtown Genoa when a live antique auction takes center stage at noon.
The auction of affordable antiques from the Genoa area includes silver serving pieces, tools, toys, small furniture, home decor, bottles, boxes, crockery, dolls, kitchen implements and more. The auction is sponsored by The Corner Thrift Store, which recently opened at the corner of Main and Sycamore streets in downtown Genoa. All proceeds benefit Genoa Main Street projects to improve downtown.
“A live auction is fun for everyone, whether they are bidding or not,” said Gene Bradford, Genoa Main Street vice president. “Our auctioneer, Jeff Brust, will entertain the crowd with a brief history of each item. Admission is free and it’s a great family activity.”
The live auction was part of Farm Fest for the past two years. This year, the Main Street organization changed Farm Fest from a one-day event to several special activities held at different times throughout the summer.
Genoa’s Open Air Market is among the largest in the area. Held the fourth Saturday of every month, May through October, vendors offer fresh produce from three local farms, crafts, flea market finds, new items, specialty food, jewelry and more. Lunch is served and downtown merchants have sidewalk sales on market day. The market is located at the corner of Main and Genoa streets.
