Mullis wins songwriting contest

Gary Mullis of DeKalb won a songwriting contest sponsored by Northwest Alabama Music Publishing. Three of Mullis' songs placed in the contest, including "Hoe Down," which was recorded by Jack Thomas. His prizes include a platinum record, a keyboard and photograph both autographed by Jerry Lee Lewis, a trophy and studio time to record his songs onto CDs.
