History museum makes a splash
SYCAMORE – Summer heat, for many people, involves cooling off with water – a nice cold drink, a trip to the pool, or a good old-fashioned water balloon fight. On Thursday, July 18, the Sycamore History Museum is going to have fun with water too – with a historical spin.
Water will be the theme of the museum’s July Family Fun Day. Jeffery Tyrrell of Tyrrell Well & Pump will demonstrate how wells are created and visitors will do experiments with water, take home a water-related craft, and end the afternoon with a water balloon fight.
Family Fun Days are designed to show people how history can entertain the family.
“The combination of having a well drilled by a four-generation welling company, that put the original well in at the Engh Farm, is a great story to share, but even better to see in action,” said Michelle Donahoe, executive director of the museum. “Playing with water can also be educational, as visitors try out different experiments and make predictions based on water. And who doesn’t like to have a water balloon fight?”
Tours of the exhibit “PLAY: Stories, Mementos, and Fun” and the garden will also be offered by the museum’s junior docents.
