Mental Health First Aid training offered
MALTA – The Ben Gordon Center will offer Mental Health First Aid training from 8 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, July 31, and Friday, Aug. 2, in room A-225 of the Kishwaukee College Conference Center.
Training is $25 per person. Continuing education credits are available for health care professionals. This is a certification course. Both four-hour sessions must be attended for certification.
The stigma surrounding mental illness often prevents people from seeking help or even acknowledging that they need help. And if they do want help, they don’t know where to turn.
Mental Health First Aid equips the public to help persons with mental illness connect to care.
Students will learn the prevalence and cost of mental illnesses in the U.S.; the potential warning signs and risk factors for depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychotic disorders, eating disorders, and substance use disorders; a five-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect to professional care; and resources available to help someone with a mental health problem.
