Law student honored by state bar
Meggie Hogan, a third-year law student at Northern Illinois University College of Law, received the Law Student Division’s Public Service Award from the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA).
Hogan has devoted countless hours of service to public interest initiatives including serving as president of the Public Interest Law Society during her first year in law school.
She has volunteered for several local organizations including Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County, Hope Haven, Chestnut Health Systems and the Juvenile Detention Center in Normal. Hogan has experience in the Kane, McLean and Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s offices, where she volunteered in the Domestic Violence Division and DUI/Traffic Unit.
In his nomination letter, NIU Professor Emeritus Jeffrey Parness wrote: “Meggie has devoted much of her adult life to public interest work. I know she will continue with such work upon graduation, aiding many Illinois citizens in need for decades to come.”
