Arrowhead collection on display

DeKALB – On Friday, June 28, visitors to the DeKalb Area Women’s Center, 1021 State St. in DeKalb, can receive a guided tour of the June arrowhead exhibit in the Great Hall.

The June exhibit is a collection of arrowheads – most from the United States, but including some from Mexico and Africa. The collector, Robert Hough, will lead guided tours of the exhibit from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Hough says he has been collecting arrowheads for 70 years. He found his first at age 6, when he was riding on a two-row corn planter behind his dad.

“It was damaged, but I still got it,” he recalled.

Hough makes presentations to historical societies and other interested groups, and he continues to buy, sell and collect arrowheads today. Some of his specimens are thousands of years old.

The exhibit is also open by appointment. In addition, the “Finn Town-DeKalb, Illinois” display in the OnStage Gallery has been held over through June.

For information or to schedule an appointment to view the exhibits, call 815-758-1351 or email dawc@niu.edu.
