GENOA – Cal Thompson and Meredith Fitzsimmons were crowned the 2013 Genoa Days King and Queen on Wednesday, June 12.

The Genoa Area Chamber of Commerce’s 54th annual Genoa Days King and Queen Scholarship Contest was held June 12 at the Genoa Veterans Home due to rain. A large crowd surrounded the stage anticipating who would be crowned king and queen.

Queen finalists were Fitzsimmons, Melissa Baus, Samantha Fisher, Vanessa Garza and Victoria Hensley. King finalists were Quinn Anderson, Zane LaCasse, Mason Lucca, Ben Rabe and Thompson.

All of the contestants are outstanding young adults with bright futures ahead of them. This year, for the first time, each winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Each ember of the royal court will receive $100 for continuing education. All finalists also received an assortment of gifts, prizes and promotional products from area businesses.

KishHealth System is the corporate sponsor for this event. JK Richards Photography photographed the event. The king and queen and royal court reigned over Genoa Days festivities and led the Genoa Days Parade on Saturday, June 15.
