Open air market has Mexican flavor
GENOA – Visitors to Genoa’s Open Air Market on Saturday, June 22, will find a distinctive Latin American atmosphere. In addition to fresh produce, baked goods, crafts and new items for sale, there will be Mexican food and drinks, crafts for children and music.
“Our Open Air Markets are more than just an opportunity to shop,” said Mim Evans, Genoa Main Street executive director. “Each market has a theme that makes it worth a visit every month. This month we are bringing some fun Mexican features to downtown Genoa.”
Among the specialties at the market will be walking tacos. This new take on a traditional taco has become popular at public events. Volunteers will be available to help children make maracas and other Mexican items. All crafts are free.
A monthly sidewalk sale is a regular part of market Saturday. This month a new shop, Corner Thrift Store, will be open for visitors. The shop features reasonably-priced antiques. It is located in a restored home at the corner of Sycamore and Main streets.
Genoa’s Open Air Markets are the largest in the area, with up to 40 vendors gathering the fourth Saturday of every month May through October. The market is located at the corner of Genoa and Main streets in downtown Genoa. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
