DeKALB – Jenna Dooley, reporter and morning show producer at WNIJ 89.5 FM, was named “Newsfinder of the Year” by Illinois Associated Press. The award winner is chosen by Illinois AP staff and recognizes one reporter for outstanding cooperation with the news service. AP depends on its members to share news of state-wide interest.

Dooley joined WNIJ’s news department in January 2012, but she was no stranger to local public radio listeners. While she earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism at Northern Illinois University, she reported and hosted weekend news for WNIJ. She went on to earn her master’s degree in public affairs reporting at the University of Illinois – Springfield. The stories she produced at her next job, as host and reporter at NPR-affiliate WUIS in Springfield, were often broadcast by her alma mater, WNIJ.

“I am honored to work in cooperation with such a trusted news source as The Associated Press,” she said. “This is especially true in a social media world where timeliness and accuracy must work hand-in-hand. The WNIJ news team upholds the highest journalistic values daily, and I am proud of the in-depth reporting we can provide to a statewide audience through the AP.”

This was the first such award for Dooley and a first in recent memory for WNIJ. Dooley is also recording secretary and newsletter editor for INBA.
