DeKALB – The Northern Illinois University Community School of the Arts announces the spring recital and concert schedule. Soloists and ensemble performances are featured in May on the stage of the Recital Hall and Concert Hall in the Music Building. Most performances end with a reception. All are free and open to the public.
As many as 150 soloists can be heard in performance at one of 11 solo recitals. Players range in age from 5 to adult and in experience from beginner to advanced.
On Saturday, May 4, showcase recitals, featuring adults and children performing solos on a variety of instruments, will be at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Suzuki violin and cello group performance will be at 10 a.m. in the Concert Hall. Piano solos will be in the Recital Hall at 3 p.m., and guitar solos will be in the same room at 6 p.m.
On Sunday, May 5, harp and piano solos will be at 3 p.m. in the Recital Hall. The Jazz Band, an audition-only group, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall.
Performances will be given in the Concert Hall May 6-8. On Monday, May 6, the CSA Steelband performs at 8 p.m. On Tuesday, May 7, CSA Symphonette, a youth string orchestra, performs at 6 p.m. On Wednesday, May 8, CSA Sinfonia, an audition-only full orchestra, performs at 7:30 p.m.
The CSA Children’s Choir will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, in the Recital Hall. Among the music on the program is the world premiere of a work composed by Lee Kesselman, who will be in attendance.
The final day of performances is Saturday, May 18, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. with cello solos in the Recital Hall. At 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. violin and cello solos will continue in the Recital Hall. At 5:30 p.m. piano solos will be given in the Recital Hall.
